About Douglas Fulks...
I have drawn as far back as I can remember. Pen & ink began for me in college, my only formal art training. With a Business major, and a minor in Art, I graduated from Oklahoma Christian College in my hometown of Oklahoma City in 1977. I realized later in life that the two go hand
in hand.
I began my career in a 1956 Airstream travel trailer, leaving Oklahoma and traveling from Texas to California. I did art shows, knocked on doors for odd jobs – starving was never so much fun, and living in my trailer was a true adventure. In 1987 I moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and began to enjoy consistent success in my art business for the first time. I have made it my home ever since.
Drawing has always been a part of my life. The crosshatch and parallel line techniques required
in pen & ink made sense to my mind with my very first try. Since that first college exercise in "Drawing 1", I have been able to visualize the line on the paper before I apply the pen.
Ink lines crossed over each other create a variety of moods and values (or darkness). Layering
the lines creates what you see as finished art... four lines crosshatched define the deepest value.
At this point in time, I travel to approximately 32 shows a year in the Midwest and Eastern parts of the country. Each show is unique and equally fun, and I enjoy seeing art patrons who return year after year to the shows.
I hope you enjoy the website and viewing my
current collections. If you have any questions
about any of my drawings, please feel free to
contact me - but always give me a few days
to respond! I look forward to seeing you at a
show down the road.
